Window Types and Styles and Options

Double Hung Windows

  • Features two sashes that move up and down
  • Often found in older homes
  • Has a very traditional look
  • Offers tilt in Sashes
  • Offers real wood or simulated wood interiors

Casement Windows

  • Opens outward with a cranking style handle
  • Excellent choice when egress is and issues or escape areas are needed
  • Can be designed to look like traditional double hung windows
  • Crank and push out styles are available

Awning Windows

  • Hinged at the top
  • Designed to circulate air without exposing your room to elements such as light rain
  • Works well in combination with a large, fixed window

Tilt and Turn

  • Very popular European style
  • Tilt in like a double hung window or swings open like a door
  • Offers great egress
  • Can simulate look of a double hung

Bay window

  • Often allows for a greater area for Daylight
  • Often have two operating units and one fixed unit
  • Window can be counter levered to add space to a room

Installation and Window Types

Insert Replacements

Insert replacement are installed into existing wall cavities, and in most cases the interior trim or exterior trim is not readily disturbed. Most Vinyl window replacements are done though this installation.

Full Frame Replacements

Full frame replacement is used when entire window systems must be replaced, especially when the window jamb and cavity are badly disturbed, this often times requires new window trim and paint throughout.

Sash Replacement

Sash replacement, such as tilt packs are the least invasive and the most  unlikely but many times only involve the window sash – The Sashes are typically just the window operating glass components.

How do you I get my windows?

  1. Contact your Team at CHE
  2. Schedule a no cost critical measure and investigation of your specific needs
  3. Agree with Custom Home Exteriors on your styles, windows, and options
  4. Once Terms are agree upon your window order will be placed and hand built by American craftsman’s
  5. Lead times for our Marvin series are 3 to 4 weeks, or Weather Lok series only has a lead time of 7 to 10 business days.
  6. Most Installations only take 3 to 5 days start to finish
  7. Cost will depend greatly on type of window, shape , style and installation process, such as sahs packs, full frame replacement

What’s the installation process like?

  1. Installations will be scheduled in great advance and at your preconstruction meeting you will receive both a start date and a scheduled completion.
  2. Team CHE installers will arrive with windows, tools, and protective equipment for the surrounding work area.
  3. Windows are removed and replaced one at a time to insure there are no incorrect sizes or issues from manufacturing.
  4. Full Frame replacements take just a bit longer than inserts because of removal and replacement of existing millwork (frames, sills, casing etc…)
  5. Custom Home Exteriors window crews are expected to minimize trash, debris and waste and cleanup to a like new condition
